Washingtonia robusta is a palm tree that belongs to the Arecaceae family and is native to Mexico. Its main characteristics include:

    • It is one of the fastest growing palm trees and can grow up to 30 metres tall
    • It needs direct sunlight, although as a young plant it also tolerates some shade
    • Cold hardy (to -11°C)
    • It is well-adapted to wet and salty environments, making it an ideal option for seafronts in coastal cities
    • Because of the particular climate in Spain, the Mexican fan palm can be found growing wild along the Mediterranean
